About

Emily K. Kunkel, MD

Dr. Kunkel is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in minimally invasive abdominal surgery. She treats many conditions that may require scheduled or emergency surgery, including hernias, gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD), gallstones, and appendicitis. Special interests include surgery to repair hernias, rebuild the abdominal wall, or treat problems in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Dr. Kunkel is trained in advanced laparoscopic, robotic, and endoscopic surgery and opts for one of these minimally invasive approaches whenever possible. Endoscopic surgery is performed using tiny instruments that are attached to a thin lighted tube (endoscope) that is inserted into the mouth and guided to the GI tract.
