What are kidney cysts?

Kidney cysts are round pouches of fluid that form in the kidneys. Kidney cysts are associated with more serious disorders that may impair kidney function. Typically, only one cyst occurs on the surface of a kidney, but multiple cysts can affect one or both kidneys.

Simple cysts are different from the cysts that form during polycystic kidney disease. Simple kidney cysts may not present any symptoms requiring treatment, but when they do you may need surgery to drain them or remove them.

Symptoms of kidney cysts

In polycystic kidney disease, treatment involves dealing with the following signs, symptoms and complications in their early stages:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Pain
  • Complications of Cysts
  • Bladder or Kidney Infections
  • Blood in the Urine
  • Kidney Failure
  • Liver Cysts
  • Aneurysms
