Responsible for direct and indirect care of patients in the Family Planning Clinic. Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the specialty services under their charge and communicating pertinent information to provide optimum patient care. Assists in developing and monitoring quality improvement issues and assuring staff are competent and are able to meet the needs of the patient population. Assist in ongoing evaluation of staff competency and daily activities of the program. Serve as a Liaison between Family Planning Council and the Hospital. Attend monthly Family Planning Council meetings and participate in QA audits.
Primary Functions
Coordination of program activities:
- Prioritizes responsibilities centered on the needs of the patient, managing time to achieve maximum productivity.
- Facilitates workflow by assisting with all examinations of the clients in the OB/GYN/FP clinics.
- Assures cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Provides supervision and direction to other team members. Delegates tasks according to capabilities and scope of responsibilities.
Assessment and Planning of Care:
- Serves as a role model and mentor to staff in planning patient care by using the nursing process, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrates advanced skills in interviewing, counseling and education of patients regarding birth control, sexually transmitted disease prevention, pregnancy and genetics.
- Performs pregnancy testing.
- Obtains Medical History, including gynecological related problems, contraceptive knowledge and past birth control successes and failures.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- BSN required, or actively pursing.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- Current PA state nursing license.
Experience
- Three years family planning and or women’s children’s experience required.
- Current BLS certification
