Founded in 1927, the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) is one of only a few freestanding, hospital-associated biomedical research centers in the U.S. As the research center for Lankenau Hospital and the Main Line Health, which serves the western suburbs of Philadelphia, LIMR conducts laboratory-based and clinical investigations in a tightly knit, multidisciplinary community of scientists, nurses and physicians.
The LIMR faculty presently includes 18 principal investigators and 28 affiliated clinical investigators who study fundamental aspects of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other major disorders; conduct preclinical and translational tests of experimental diagnostic and therapeutic agents; and perform clinical studies aimed at delivering new tests and medicines to the patient. To speed applications of its discoveries, LIMR also incubates and partners with small biotechnology companies that are often important to move new laboratory technologies into the clinic.
Our highly integrated research environment, which also benefits from close contacts with the Annenberg Conference Center for Medical Education at Lankenau Hospital, is designed to meld elements and disciplines in research and medicine that are usually separated. The design of our research model not only accelerates discovery but also helps identify and capture the best routes between research and clinical benefit.
