Whether you or a loved one are in the hospital, you may be experiencing a lot of different thoughts, feelings, concerns and questions. Sometimes, it helps to connect with someone who can provide religious, spiritual or emotional support during this stressful and trying time.
Spiritual care in our hospitals
You don't have to navigate this journey alone. Our spiritual care professionals are trained to provide spiritual and emotional support by offering an empathetic listening ear and ways to find mindfulness.
You can turn to our chaplains for thoughtful guidance, comfort and support when you or a loved one are faced with:
- A new or difficult prognosis
- Feelings of depression, guilt, anxiety, apprehension and fear
- Emotional trauma
- Family and relationship issues
- Life situations that contribute to an illness or complicate recovery
- Making ethical decisions about treatment
Lankenau Medical Center
Hours of in-house coverage:
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Emergency coverage:
Chaplains are available for Level 1 Traumas, needs/crisis in labor and delivery, NICU and maternity and other sudden and unexpected losses.

Eucharistic ministers are on site every Friday at 4 p.m. to provide the Eucharist to our Catholic patients. Please contact the Chaplain’s office to be added to the Catholic Communion list during your stay.

Clinical pastoral education
Our chaplains serve all patients and visitors of diverse backgrounds and spiritual orientations with respect, empathy and dignity.
Some of the ways our spiritual care professionals and CPE Students provide compassionate support and guidance include:
- Empathetic listening and meaning-making
- Spiritual assessment, working in collaboration with the medical team
- Guided meditation and other spiritual modalities
- Support when making difficult decisions
- Prayer and sacramental support
- Holding spiritual and religious services for holidays and life transitions
- Providing spiritual resources, such as religious texts
- Honoring specific rites and rituals while you or your loved one is in the hospital
Our spiritual care professionals also assist with special dietary needs related to faith, culture or tradition.
